My Girl - Joanne Bain

Howdy Peeps!!

Today I have an OTP project to share. I have altered a Cigar Box and Large Window to create a shadow box window. I haven't done anything off the page in quiet a while so I really enjoyed creating this for a bit of a change up. I like to think outside the box and I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I ordered these products and I am glad my idea was able to come to life so to speak.

This is quiet a photo heavy post just to show all of the little details.

"My Girl"

It focuses on my daughter, who is growing up way to fast, I find myself asking where has the last 16 years gone?

So to create the shadow box I slightly altered the size of the cigar box and removed the lid. Once I did this it was the perfect size to create a shadow box to fit behind the large window. I then cut the tops off of the outside window shutters so they were just a little taller then the windows.

I wanted to make it quiet shabby, so I painted it white Dusty Attic Alabaster #DA0902 was perfect for this. Once dry I gave it a light sand to expose the raw chipboard in areas. I covered the inside of the box with Blue Fern Studios patterned paper.

I wanted to add extra features to it so I created and awning and extra window top feature with the Wrought Iron Design set. The half circle pieces worked fantastically for this. I added texture paste to these to give them a rough aged type of look.

I decided then that I would also dress up the windows themselves a little more and added some more Wrought Iron Design pieces to them, once again these had texture paste added for a rough finish. To create my fancy handles for the windows I then added a mini hinge to each of the windows. I attached the outside window shutters with the super cute little hinges from the Mini Hinges set.

I then added some Swirly Vines to the front. I applied texture paste and gesso to these and then coloured them with a light wash of Dusty Colour Crushed Olive DA0917 & Dusty Pink DA0907.

Dusty Colour Dusty Pink was also added to the Vine Frame #2 that sit behind my photo inside the shadow box.

For the finishing touches I added a vine and some gorgeous ribbon, and just for a special touch I added a little nest and some birds for an added feature.

This looks so beautiful! Very pretty and feminine. Love the ribbon curled down the side like that! And love all the chippies you have used too! And the years go too fast!
